Question 1

What do you learn in the Electrical & Advanced Electrical program at Apex Technical School?

Accepted Answer

Apex's Electrical & Advanced Electrical program covers six segments: Basic Electrical 1, Basic Electrical 2, Conduit Bending, Motors and Motor Controls, Low Voltage and Signaling, and Advanced Electrical. Students train hands-on in electrical safety, blueprint reading, residential wiring, breakers, fuses, grounding, bonding, and splicing, all aligned to the National Electrical Code.

Question 2

How long is the electrical program at Apex Technical School?

Accepted Answer

Apex's Electrical & Advanced Electrical program is 900 clock hours and can be completed in as little as 7 months. Day and evening class schedules are available at Apex's Branch Campus in Midtown East, Manhattan, and admissions are rolling throughout the year.

Question 3

Do I need experience to enroll in Apex's electrical program?

Accepted Answer

No. The Electrical & Advanced Electrical program is designed for beginners and starts with general electrical installation and safety before progressing through conduit bending, motor controls, and advanced systems. Students build skill segment by segment, so no prior electrical experience is required.

Question 4

What does the "Advanced" part of Apex's Electrical & Advanced Electrical program cover?

Accepted Answer

Beyond foundational wiring and code training, students complete Low Voltage and Signaling — covering security, fire alarm, intercom, and CCTV systems — and an Advanced Electrical segment covering power quality, harmonics, voice and data systems, fiber optics, PLCs, solar and wind energy, and home automation. This part of the program expands beyond entry-level residential wiring into commercial, low-voltage, and green-energy systems.

Question 5

What jobs can I get after completing Apex's Electrical & Advanced Electrical program?

Accepted Answer

Graduates are prepared for entry-level roles in residential electrical, commercial electrical, and factory and warehouse electrical work across New York City. Apex's job placement assistance team works with students and graduates on resumes, interview preparation, and connections to employers hiring electricians.

Question 6

How much do electricians make in New York?

Accepted Answer

The national median annual wage for electricians is $62,350, according to May 2024 data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Entry-level electricians typically start below the median, with pay increasing through apprenticeship progression, licensure, and specialization in areas like low-voltage or industrial systems.

Question 7

Do I need a license to work as an electrician in New York?

Accepted Answer

Most states require electricians to be licensed, and in New York City specifically, electricians typically need a license from the Department of Buildings to work independently or pull permits, usually earned through years of supervised experience after entry-level training. Apex's program builds the foundational skills and code knowledge that prepare graduates to enter the field and begin that path.

Question 8

Why choose Apex Technical School for electrical training in New York City?

Accepted Answer

Apex has trained electricians in New York since 1961, and its Electrical & Advanced Electrical program goes beyond basic wiring into low-voltage systems, PLCs, and solar and wind energy. The 900-hour program takes as little as 7 months, taught at Apex's Midtown East, Manhattan campus with day and evening options, and rolling admissions so students can start year-round.
